We Are Meant to Move!
We Are Meant to Move!
By: Dr. Roger Landry, MD, MPH
What happens when we move? Well, for one thing, our brains are healthier when we move. Exercise reduces inflammation in our bodies and stimulates the release of chemicals in our brain that allow us to grow new blood vessels and create new brain cells. This has been linked to better Executive Functioning (i.e. memory and decision making) and a reduced risk of dementia and stroke.
We also know that movement reduces stress, gives us more energy, makes us more resilient and reduces the likelihood that we’ll be afflicted with heart disease, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis and other diseases.
Movement matters! Watch this short video segment for tips to incorporate more movement into your daily life.
